Gemma read English at St. Anne's College, Oxford, before completing the Graduate Diploma in Law and Bar Vocational Course at BPP Law School, London. During her BVC year, she was awarded a scholarship from Inner Temple. Gemma was called to the Bar in 2007 and joined 1 Garden Court in January 2014.

Gemma's practice covers all areas of Children work.

Gemma has a flourishing care and adoption practice, acting in equal measure for local authorities and parents up to High Court level, including in appeals. She has also represented the Official Solicitor in cases where vulnerable parents lack capacity.

Gemma has a particular interest in cases involving complex medical evidence, having represented both local authorities, parents and the Guardian in non-accidental injury cases involving head injuries, multiple fractures, burns and bruises. Gemma is currently being led by Charles Geeky QC on a very complex sexual abuse involving multiple victims and alleged perpetrators.

Gemma has considerable experience in private law cases. This includes being led in a High Court sexual abuse case for a Guardian in which evidence was given by video link from children, and the alleged perpetrator appeared in person.
