Bird & Bird

Ewan is a partner in the Intellectual Property practice based in London, specialising in IP enforcement and litigation across a range of rights including patents, trade marks, designs and confidential information. He frequently acts in complex litigation (often with a cross border element) before the IPEC, High Court, Court of Appeal and CJEU, as well as in proceedings before the EUIPO/UKIPO. I also advise on international customs enforcement programmes and detentions.

He is the head of International Product Design group, specialising in protecting and enforcing innovative or high tech product design and associated branding. He has an extensive experience of advising clients throughout the product lifecycle on many aspects of product design creation, protection and enforcement. This work often relates to products and technologies in areas as diverse as medical devices, mechanical engineering, consumer goods, aviation, automotive and luxury goods, and frequently involves a range of different IP rights.

He also leads our International Product Compliance & Liability group, guiding clients through the often complex regulatory regimes for conformity testing, marking, labelling and market surveillance requirements for new products to be lawfully placed on the market in the EU and UK.

His experience has been bolstered over the years with secondments in the commercial and regulatory team at AstraZeneca and as Senior Counsel in the trademarks group at Phillip Morris International, with responsibility for Asia Pacific.

He is the editor of our design law bulletin, DesignWrites and a member of IP organisations including CITMA, INTA and AIPPI. I also serve on the Designs & Copyright Committee of CITMA.
