Ed Smyth

Senior Associate

Kingsley Napley

Ed is a Senior Associate in Kingsley Napley's Criminal Litigation Department and represents individuals and corporates involved across the full spectrum of criminal and quasi-criminal matters including fraud and financial crime, sex offences, extradition and inquests.

Ed has acted in many investigations and prosecutions (by a variety of different agencies) of complex fraud, financial crime and money laundering matters. He represents individuals at all stages of investigation and prosecution and has acted in cases involving the SFO, FCA, the Information Commissioner, OFCOM, local authority licensing departments and other professional disciplinary bodies.

A particular feature of Ed’s practice is advising prior to, or at the earliest stages of, any investigation with a view to preventing further action. He is very sensitive to reputational issues, adept at handling the media and advising on strategies to minimise publicity. His calm and thorough approach is praised by his clients, as is his enviable success rate.

Ed also has extensive experience of challenging police cautions and advising those who are concerned about disclosure of information by the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly the Criminal Records Bureau).
