Michael Ranson is an experienced real estate lawyer.  Prior to joining Falcon Chambers he worked for fifteen years as a property solicitor at a firm in the City of London where he was a partner from 2012.  Before transferring to the Bar, Michael held higher rights of audience in civil matters entitling him to appear as a solicitor advocate in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

Michael has particular experience in the following areas:

  • Transactional matters including advising on transactional documents, disputes about property transactions and Land Registration issues
  • Landlord and tenant disputes
  • Third party rights (restrictive covenants, rights of way etc)
  • Property-related professional negligence
  • Disputes involving estate agents’ and buying agents’ fees
  • Lease extensions of flats, collective enfranchisements and enfranchisement of leasehold houses
  • Schemes of Estate Management and other requirements of the major London estates (Grosvenor, Cadogan etc) and The Crown Estate
  • Residential tenants’ statutory rights of first refusal
  • Residential service charge control
  • The Right to Manage and appointment of a manger by the First-tier Tribunal
  • Rights of light
  • Party wall matters including party wall appeals

He also spent six months as a judicial assistant in the Court of Appeal, working primarily for the head of the Chancery Division.  Michael accepts instructions across a broad range of contentious and non-contentious real estate work.
