Margaret Heathcote

Chair of Resolution

Bishop & Sewell LLP

Margaret Heathcote joined Bishop & Sewell as a Consultant Solicitor in 2012.

She advises clients with issues relating to all aspects of private family law, including complex financial issues, pre-nuptial agreements, private Children Act proceedings and issues arising out of cohabitation. Many of her cases have involved complex international and jurisdictional issues, or have involved Trusts and third party assets. A number of her cases have been reported.

She has specialised in family law for the whole of her career, her first job after graduating from university being at the Principal Registry of the Family Division, then based at Somerset House.

After qualifying as a Solicitor, Margaret worked with some of the best known family specialists in the country, including John Cornwell (with whom she trained), a family law pioneer and the founder of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors’ Family Law Association), a nationwide organisation of family justice professionals committed to a Code of Practice which assures that they adopt a client-focused and non-confrontational approach to the resolution of family law disputes wherever possible.

Margaret now spends the majority of her time working as National Chair of Resolution. She sits on Resolutions’ National and Executive Committees, along with its Standards, Pensions, Tax and Financial Remedies Committees.

In 2009-10 Margaret was President of the City of Westminster and Holborn Law Society.
