Charles was appointed to the rank of Queens Counsel in 2014. He is a family advocate with particular expertise in all aspects of matrimonial finance and Schedule 1 (financial remedies) and private law children work. He is regularly instructed in international family disputes, leave to remove and child abduction cases involving international law, Brussels I and II and international treaties. He has provided advice and Affidavits of Laws in French and Australian divorce cases. In domestic cases, Charles has a reputation for dealing with the most complex matters involving financial disputes as well as intractable and alienated parent cases, vulnerable adult/child cases and also cases arising out of same sex/alternative family disputes. Charles Hale is a family practitioner who is a master at both matrimonial finance and children related cases. He is regularly instructed by leading London and national solicitors and has handled cases of the utmost complexity and sensitivity such as A, B and C (2012), a matter concerning the relationship of a gay birth father to a child of lesbian mothers. Other recent matters of note include Re T (Children), which raised a very significant point in respect of costs in children proceedings involving local authorities.
