Great IP licensing disasters and how to avoid them
Licensing your IP can provide numerous financial benefits with minimal exposure to risk but only if the licence is drafted correctly. If confidential information needs to be disclosed, a non-disclosure agreement should be entered into and any necessary patent application should be filed. Failure to undertake any of these steps may restrict your ability to exploit your own IP in the future and allow your competitors to steal market share.
This webinar covers:
• Defining the licensed product and the licensed rights
• Defining the royalty base and rate
• Dealing with improvements
• Review of the key sections of an IP licence including: the financial provisions, diligence, IP ownership and termination
• Real life examples of cases which have ended up in court and the lessons learned

Patents Litigation Update
The EU has finally decided on London, Paris and Munich as the 3 locations for the new Unified Patent Court. This means that, for the first time ever, a single patent will be valid across 25 European countries. The Court is unlikely to come into force before 2014 with London having responsibility for pharma and chemistry patents.
This webinar will examine these new proposals, and their likely impact on the UK economy, and ask whether they will impact on forum shopping in Europe. Our top level speakers will also address the latest issues arising out of recent UK patent case law.
This webinar will cover:
• Recent UK patent case law
• Forum shopping for patent litigation in Europe
• Update on the proposed Unified Patents Court for the EU

Copyright Law Update
Last year the Government outlined its plans to reform UK copyright laws in light of recommendations made in the Hargreaves Review. The aim is to streamline copyright licensing for the digital age including the establishment of an industry-led Copyright Hub based in the UK. The Government proposes allowing limited private copying, introducing an exemption for parody and pastiche and widening exceptions for libraries. However, many have argued that the draft law, intended to give performers, composers and producers more rights over their royalties, does not go far enough.
Our panel of expert speakers will analyse the likely impact of these proposals in light of recent case law.
This webinar will cover:
• EU and UK plans to reform copyright
- Private copying
- Non-commercial research- data mining and analytics
- Parody and pastiche exception
- Orphan works
- Voluntary extended collective licensing schemes
• UK v EU law – Information Society Directive 2000 limits exceptions to copyright
• Meltwater appeal decision
• Lucasfilm v Ainsworth, etc…

Patents and Standards
Often, the implementation of a standard requires the use of technology which is protected by one or more patents. This can lead to conflict between patents and standards. One solution, when dealing with different patentees who own a number of patents, is to set up a patent pool. This can be seen most recently in the case of Sisvel who has launched a new patent pool offering licenses under a portfolio of patents essential to LTE or 4G.
Our panel of expert speakers will examine what disclosure should be made during the standard-setting process and look at the FRAND licensing issues that arise as a result in light of recent case law.
This webinar will cover:
• IP disclosures during standard-setting
• Infringement claims based on essentiality to standards
• Declarations of essentiality and non-essentiality
• FRAND licensing issues
• A review of current litigation around Europe
