Case study - maternity rights and the interplay of paternity rights

From April 2011, fathers were entitled to take six months' paternity leave in the second six months of their child's life, so long as the mother had returned to work. However, campaign groups have warned that they expect take-up to be low as they do not believe that the new paternity rights go far enough to encourage fathers to take leave. This essential-level employment law webinar will examine the impact of these proposals on employers and discuss if they go any way to bridging the gender pay gap.

This webinar covers:
Paternity rights:
- How does the new right to Additional Paternity leave work?
- Are employers obliged to match occupational maternity pay for men?
The Government's proposals to change family leave rights:
- What are the likely issues for employers if in future leave can be taken in a more flexible way?
- How will the notification provisions work?
- How will pay and benefits be treated?
Other family friendly legislation:
- What is the potential impact of the extension of flexible working rights to all employees?
- How should employers respond to competing requests?
Maternity rights:
- Before leaving the office: basic outline of rights, time off for antenatal appointments, risk assessment
- Pay issues: non cash benefits, accrual of holiday and problem areas - pension contributions, bonus, KIT days
- Contact whilst on leave: KIT days and return to work
