Procurement, competition and bribery
Originally broadcast on Monday, March 5, 2012 - 12:30
The Bribery Act 2010 created a new corporate offence of failing to prevent bribery. The legislation is widely drafted and covers all ‘associated persons’. It is likely to have a significant impact on the construction industry as many construction projects have complex webs of relationships and include international operations, making them more vulnerable to bribery and corruption charges.
Under the 2004 EU Procurement Rules if a director of a company is convicted of bribery offences, the company can be barred from tendering for EU public contracts. This webinar will explore the complex relationship between procurement, competition and bribery in the light of the new law and other recent developments.
This webinar covers:
• Overview and changes to procurement rules
• The impact of the Remedies Directive and automatic suspension
• Competition in the light of the OFT bid-rigging investigation and appeals
• The Bribery Act and its impact on procurement: domestic and international issues
